Photo Book: “Evros Life on the banks” by Antonis Pasvantis
“EVROS Life on the banks” (from Potamos Publications) is the title of the photographic book by our photographer and graduate Antonis Pasvantis. Antonis sensitively and insightfully highlights the everyday life of the border prefecture, focusing on the villages on the coast, the refugee issue and the Muslim minority.
“The first time photographer Antonis Pasvantis went up to Evros, he was so enchanted that he promised to return. For years he was consumed by the desire to show ‘how borders affect people’s lives’. Ten years later, he presents a body of photographs that not only maps the extreme beauty of the landscapes, but captures the entire human geography of the wider Evros region: The co-existence of Christians and Alawites Muslims, their religious customs and festivals, but also the harsh daily life of the hard-working people. At the same time, it captures the painful reality of migrants seeking a better future in the region. This photographic work, on the borderline between artistic work and historical document, reveals the unknown face of a critical region of the Greek territory.”
